Rubber tyre scraps custom duty exemption suggested

KARACHI – Cement manufacturing companies have suggested to the National Tariff Commission an exemption from the levied custom duty on rubber tyre scraps.

Cement industry sources told that currently 20 custom duties levied on the imported tyre scraps, while the cost of production in the cement sector was seen rising due to coal-price hikes in the international market and, therefore, the cement industry could use the cheap rubber tyre scraps as a substitute for costly imported coal, which could reduce the cost of production and make the cement industry more competitive in the export market.
