Milberg LLP is currently investigating an unlikely suspect: crumb rubber. The US –based Law firm is now looking into the health risks of crumb rubber infills in artificial turf.

Crumb rubber is made of recycled car tyres and is commonly used to fill the space between artificial blades of grass. The rubber infill cushions the playing field for athletes. But crumb rubber is also said to contain carbon black, heavy metals, and other toxic chemicals.

“Numerous national and local news reports have highlighted potential dangers, and there is growing concern that athletes, particularly soccer and lacrosse goalies, are at heightened risk from the constant exposure associated with their training,” Said Milberg LLP. “Additionally, cities, municipalities, and school districts across the country have been forced to re-evaluate their decisions about artificial turf.”

The case will be handled by Milberg partner Ariana Tadler, a recongnised lawyer and a former lacrosse goalie. “My history as an athlete makes me particularly interested in protecting fellow athletes who may have been harmed by crumb rubber,” she says.
