RM300m to RM500m to be invested in automation by Glove makers

KUALA LUMPUR: An official from the Malaysian rubber glove makers industry have said that in the next five to 10 years, they will be investing about RM300M to RM500m to  improve their automation system and reduce the cost of labour.

Lee Kwee Shyan, the President of the Malaysian Rubber Glove Manufacturers Association said that this investment on the automation will help the manufacturers to decrease the workforce by 30-50% in no more than half a decade.

He also said in the 6th International Rubber Glove Conference and Exhibition that this can also help in the employment rate of locales as they will be hiring more local skilled workers than foreign workers who are non-skilled.

According to Lim, the adaptation of the newer technology can help the glove makers in Malaysia to reduce their labour costs thus mitigate risks from the increase in the prices of latex as well a natural gases.(PRA)
