SIMTEC Silicone Parts, a custom manufacturer of Liquid Silicone Rubber (LSR) parts and high-precision LSR 2-Shot components, has announced a new project in partnership with a tier-one automotive supplier. Together, they will manufacture a challenging LSR 2-Shot automotive sealing component. SIMTEC will begin full production on the part in February with distribution planned for North America, Europe, and Asia.
SIMTEC will produce the component using high cavitation 48+48 cavity LSR and polyamide (PA) 2-Shot tools, one of the largest cavitation 2-Shot tools available. In the LSR 2-Shot process, LSR is moulded directly onto the PA in the same tool where the PA component was originally moulded. Each time the tool closes, 48 PA parts are produced and an additional 48 PA parts are overloaded with LSR.
“This component was a challenge due to its extremely tight tolerances (in the hundredths of a millimetre) and the fast time-to-market requirements.
