MPM to highlight new Liquid Silicone Rubber light diffuser line at strategies in light show

Liquid-Silicone-Rubber

The LSR light diffuser line combines LSR technology with a specialty filler that can enable an even longer life span of optical components in LED lighting, as compared to current technologies. The extension to the SilCool TIA series of thermal potting materials broadens the range of thermal conductivity levels available for its unique stress-relieving compounds.

Extending Service Life & Light Efficiency

MPM developed the silicone light diffuser LSR grade because a long lifetime is such a critical requirement when attempting to replace conventional light sources. In addition to extending the service life, the light diffuser grades typically provide longer thermal and color stability of optical parts than plastics, which is critical with optical components in LED luminaires and lamps.

Opening up the Realm of Design Possibilities

Because a broad hardness range is so critical to flexibility in design, MPM developed its new LSR light diffuser line with a range from low hardness (5 shore A) to high hardness (90 Shore A), and added Silopren LSR 7000 grades with 90 shore A hardness. With such ranges, designers have the freedom to develop very complex and miniscule optic designs, ultimately enabling innovative solutions such as for LED lenses, light guides, optical films and other optical applications. And, even with direct contact to high voltage LED sources, the grades maintain long-term color stability over time.

Additionally, Silopren LSR’s makeup and injection molding process can help solve the space challenge that occurs with LED luminaires and lamps and the shorter lifespan issue that occurs when LEDs are used for entire lighting fixtures.

Extending Service Life & Reliability Through Good Thermal Conductivity & Stress Relief

MPM’s SilCool TIA series of thermally conductive potting materials offers a unique combination of good thermal conductivity with low hardness, providing a solution to LED lighting manufacturers and designers who need to extend the reliability, performance and service life of lighting assemblies. In addition to the 2.2W/m.K TIA222G and 1.6 W/m.K TIA216G grades, MPM recently added the SilCool TIA207GN grade to the series with thermal conductivity of 0.7W/m.K.

Other typical benefits of Momentive’s SilCool TIA series thermal potting materials include the following:

– provides good thermal conductivity to help reduce average operational temperatures of LED lighting assemblies, driver and ballasts while helping reduce thermal stress-related circuit board failure that can occur with typical high-hardness thermal materials

– helps LED lighting engineers manage heat dissipation, challenges in their product designs and avoid premature failure of lighting products
