Mitsui Chem prepares for restoration activities

After the explosion of the company’s resorcinol plant in Iwakuni and Ohtake, Mitsui Chemicals announced that it is currently working with local authorities in the investigation and is preparing for some restoration activities.

For safety measures, the company is clearing out residual liquid in the plant. Their next focus would be to restore the utility supply systems and prepare for scheduled safety inspections and regular maintenance within May and June of this year.
According to Mitsui, product supply will resume for shipments that have been confirmed undamaged by the authorities. As conditions for products and brands differ, the company said they will advise their customers on the status.

The affected plant holds resorcinol, acetone, cymene, hydroquinone, PET resin, hydrocarbon-based synthetic oil and among others.
