Funds for Nano Technology in UK

Gradena, Yorkshire-based specialists in waste tyre and UPVC recycling, has received funding from the environment investment firm Iona Capital, based in London. Gradena will use the funds to utilise nano technology in the manufacture of homogenous wood replacement goods.

Gradena is a joint venture of Gradsol (a sustainable consultancy firm based in London) and Dena technology, a nano technology solutions provider. The two have a joint-venture to produce the new wood replacement utilising micronized rubber for process intensification.

Iona will support Gradena’s new project to develop new facilities that will produce new products from the re-use and recycling of waste tyres.

The investment company said Gradena is planning to process 1200 tonnes of waste tyres in the first year with the funding acquired from them. This will be increased when the company installs more production lines.

Reportedly, Gradena’s output can be moulded into various shapes to meet customer demands, with properties that make it superior to natural alternatives.

Gradsol Finance Director Robert Paley reiterates that end products will be more durable than traditional ones, and provide more commercial benefits. (RJA)
