Stricter energy codes. Creative designs for aesthetically striking structures. A push to be more “green” in every aspect of building design and construction. These simultaneous trends in the building industry can be difficult to juggle, but Dow Corning Corporation – a global leader in silicones, silicon-based technology and innovation – continues to introduce technologies to address these trends and help architects and building component designers find the balance they seek.

At Construct Canada 2014 – scheduled for Dec. 3 through 5 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada – not only will Dow Corning exhibit a number of these solutions, but one of its high-performance building experts will present a related seminar.Stanley Yee, LEED Accredited Professional and a façade design and construction specialist for Dow Corning High Performance Building Solutions, will present “How to Respond to the Growing Pressure to Enhance Curtain Wall Thermal Performance” from 10:30 a.m. to noon Dec. 4 as part of Construct Canada’s seminar lineup. The seminar (T114) will feature energy-efficient solutions, such as aerogel insulation and vacuum insulation panels, and how they can offer new design options to improve the overall U-value of the façade while maximizing the vision area. Cost is $40 ($45 after Nov. 25).Dow Corning will showcase some of its most recent technologies during Construct Canada. The company will be in Booth 926.

Featured products include silicone solutions designed to enable sustainable construction while also allowing architects and designers the design freedom they desire:

  • The Dow Corning Silicone Air Barrier System – Overcome the shortcomings of other air and water barriers with this suite of compatible high-performance silicone products engineered to resist extreme environmental conditions; it is the only water-based silicone air barrier complemented by a fully compatible system.
  • High-performance insulation for next-generation façades – Meet thermal bridging challenges with thin-profile Dow Corning HPI-1000 Building Insulation Blanket (R 9.8 per inch). Enable slim wall constructions with high R-value performance (up to R 50 in a 2-inch thickness) with Dow Corning Architectural Insulation Modules (AIM™) whose Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) has been certified by UL Environment.
  • Dow Corning 121 Structural Glazing Sealant – Simplify repair and speed production times compared to one-part structural glazing sealing with this neutral-cure RTV silicone sealant with a unique 1-to-1 (“121”) mix ratio; it offers easy mixing, simplified dispensing and a fast (24-hour) cure.
  • Solutions based on proven technology
“Achieving sustainable building goals while still feeling they have the freedom to be creative is extremely important to today’s architects and building component designers. But they also need the assurance that the materials that are allowing them to strike that balance are based on proven technology,” said Dow Corning New Business Market Development Leader Paul Wisniewski. “With more than 70 years of silicon-based technology expertise and a wealth of contemporary high-performance solutions rooted in that expertise, Dow Corning is well-positioned to serve this demanding, evolving market.”
