DMACK Tyres aspiring to catch consumer market

The Carlisle-based tyre brand DMACK is launching a range of 75 tyres for the consumer market.

Dick Cormack, a former rally driver and motorsport product development manager at Pirelli, set up the business in 2006 initially to design and produce high-performance motorsport tyres.

DMACK was selected in 2011 as was one of two tyre manufacturers – the other was Michelin – authorised to supply tyres to the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) World Rally Championship. It developed a range of high-performance road tyres aimed at consumer motorists last year.

These are due to go on sale nationally in June backed by a nationwide marketing campaign.

Mr Cormack said: “Motorsport is the test bed for normal road cars. And once rally fans see DMACK tyres winning races, they start wanting them on their cars. We’re calling it ‘Drive DMACK’,”

The push into the consumer tyres follows a £3.5m investment by private-equity manager Maven, which took a 30 per cent stake in the business at the end of 2013.

The tyres are designed at DMACK’s offices at Kingstown and manufactured in China.

Turnover last year was £4.7m but is set to soar to £26.5m by 2016.

The firm expects to produce 200,000 tyres this year, up from 70,000 in 2013.
