Rubber plantation has becoming popular among the farmers, which has a high growth potentiality in Dimapur district. Keeping in mind the need for updating the basic practices of rubber cultivation, department of land resources, Dimapur conducted one day training cum demonstration March 25. Altogether, 40 participants from different villages under Dhansiripar block attended the programme.
Resource person, WDT Aoyanger gave a power point presentation on “management of rubber nursery and plantation of rubber trees” and illustrated in detail the system of secondary rubber management and method of rubber plantation.
He also gave a brief demonstration on selection of polythene bag, how to raise budded stumps in poly bags, filling of soil in poly bag, land preparation, pit preparation and planting method.
WDT also displayed to farmers how to differentiate false shoot sprouting from the stock, which has to be removed and that regular inspection should be made to ensure only one vigorous shoot was allowed to grow.
The resource person also advised the farmers to practice intercropping of short term agri and horti crops with rubber that would help them in economic return. The training concluded with positive response from the participants.
