Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development will conduct a hearing between Michelin and 5 other groups that accuse Michelin of breaking the locals’ rights after the company build a plant in India.
The five groups have filed the complaint in July after Michelin built a factory in Thervoy in Tamil Nadu State in Southeast India which is the largest factory of Michelin in India which will start producing tyres in the next coming weeks.
Head of the French non-governmental group CCFD-Terre Solidaire, Bernard Pinaud, said that the factory has destructed 450 hectares of forest and used more supply of water stealing the water share for the residents of the area.
“Untouchables” the name of group of India’s poorest citizens was amongst the people who got involved and suffered.
Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development said that the hearing will start on November in Paris. (RJA)
