ContiTech inks partnership, unveils rebranding effort

ContiTech Conveyor Belt Group, Siemens A.G. Process Industries and Drives Division, and Thyssen-Krupp Industrial Solutions jointly will develop and market a steep-angle tubular belt conveying system, according to ContiTech A.G.

ContiTech also said it will rebrand belts for the mining industry produced by Veyance Technologies Inc. Those belts are to be sold under the Phoenix brand name, a ContiTech spokesman said.

Phoenix Conveyor Belt Systems has been part of ContiTech since its acquisition by the German group in 2005.

The rebranding decision only applies to products supplied to the mining sector, which were branded as Goodyear Engineering Products prior to Veyance’s acquisition by ContiTech earlier this year.

Parent group Continental A.G. bought U.S.-based Veyance Technologies from Carlyle Group for about $1.58 billion in January. It has since been working to integrate the acquired company into the ContiTech business.

The firm said its cooperation agreement revolves on the Chevron Megapipe system that Continental claims “sets a milestone for reduction in conventional heavy-duty traffic in opencast mining.”

Standard trough-shaped conveyor belts, with and without ribbing, as well as smooth pipe belts, allow the transport of bulk material with angles of incline of up to a maximum of 30 degrees, depending on the material properties, the company said.

By contrast, the ribbed Chevron Mega-Pipe conveyor belt design makes it possible to create systems with angles of incline of up to 50 degrees. It employs a high-performance direct drive that does not require an intermediate gear box, Continental said.

Initial feasibility studies have demonstrated a safe transmission of up to 8 MW, according to a company statement. – Rubbernews.com
