The Edo State House of Assembly has called on the State Government to privatise the Urhonigbe Rubber Plantation in Orhionmwon Local Government Area.
The House made the call in Benin City in a resolution after considering the report on the plantation by its Committee on Agriculture.
The Chairman of the committee, Mr. Patrick Iluobe (APC, Esan North-East), had accused members of the five Caretaker Committee managing the plantation of misappropriating its internally generated funds.
At the end of the deliberation, the House resolved that the Ministry of Agriculture should take charge of the management of the plantation pending the time it would be privatised.
It also disbanded the caretaker committee and referred the misappropriation of funds to the Commissioner of Police for investigation.
The lawmakers directed the State Internal Revenue Service to monitor all transactions in the plantation and ensure that revenues generated are remitted into government coffers.
