“No surface buffing” technology for RFID tyres

Patch, a unit of Akron-based Myers Industries Inc., specialising in tyre repair and retread products has developed a new technology, which can be chemically installed to tyres without having to buffer the surface.

Called the Speedy RFID, the radio-frequency identification (RFID) units are available for outside sidewall application; a Speedy Core unit is available for green tyre manufacturing.

The proprietary compound allows the units to be installed on the outside sidewall of tyres without buffing, which will make installation time easier and less time-consuming.

“Without the need to buff, installation time is greatly reduced and RFID units can be installed without removing the tire from the rim or vehicle,” said Robbie Bushnell, Patch Rubber key accounts sales manager.

“As RFID begins to launch with the major tyre manufacturers, there will be a demand for post cure RFID units”, he added. (RJA)
