The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) approves a volume threshold of 1 to 10 tonnes of graphene powder usage per annum of graphene products, according to Applied Graphene Materials (AGM), a UK-based company specialising in the development and application of graphene nanoplatelet dispersions for the coatings, composites and functional materials sectors. This approval, thus, allows individual members of the Graphene REACH registration consortium to supply higher volume of graphene materials. AGM is a founding member of the said consortium.
Adrian Potts, CEO of AGM, said that the REACH registration for this volume tonnage band underpins the effective and safe use of AGM’s graphene materials at higher volumes.
REACH is an EU regulation which improves the protection of human health and the environment against the risks posed by chemicals while improving the competitiveness of the EU chemical industry.
AGM utilises its proprietary bottom-up manufacturing process to produce high purity graphene nanoplatelets. Its expertise in dispersion chemistry enables to create optimised, stable and easy to handle dispersions that customers use in real-world industrial products.
A new product enhanced with AGM’s technology is a high-performance car wax made by one of its clients, Infinity Wax, a European manufacturer of automotive care products.
Infinity Wax’s car wax, using AGM’s Genable graphene nanoplatelet dispersion, offers outstanding water beading and sheeting properties as a result of increased hydrophobicity, resulting in long-term paint protection. By using the graphene wax, car owners can easily wipe off dirt on the car, enabling them to achieve a professional wax shine.
