The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) has resolved to allocate a total of 12 billion baht to assist rubber planters with their production costs and rehabilitate flood- and drought-affected people across the nation.

According to Deputy Director-General of the Department of Agricultural Extension Numchai Prommeechai, owners of 9 million rai of rubber plantations were initially eligible for assistance worth a combined 21 billion baht under the production cost subsidy program.

However, after the NCPO conducted its latest survey, another 2.4 million rai was found to be in need of support. Therefore, the NCPO today gave the green light to a budget of 6.6 billion baht to be used to subsidize the production costs of the additional batch of rubber plantations. With more than 100,000 rubber growers now entitled to the aid, the payment process is being expedited through the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives.

At the same time, the NCPO also approved another budget of 5.4 billion baht for the rehabilitation of citizens who had been devastated by natural disasters since 2012. The group consists of flood and drought victims, numbering over 580,000.

Meanwhile, the emergency decree, which had been imposed in the southernmost region, was extended by the NCPO for another three months, or until September 29 this year. – See more at: http://thainews.prd.go.th/centerweb/newsen/NewsDetail?NT01_NewsID=WNPOL5706170010012#sthash.tU7J3fEi.dpuf
