Taiwanese tyre maker Federal Corp. is recalling 6,209 Couragia A/T tyres manufactured between May 2013 and April 2014 and sold in the U.S. and Canada.

The tyres, size LT245/75R16 120/116Q 10PR, may suffer shoulder cracks caused by separation of the steel belt edge, Federal told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The tyres were built in Federal’s Taipei, Taiwan, factory, and thus bear sidewall stampings reading “DOT UXA3.”

The cracks may cause loss of air pressure, increasing the risk of a crash, the tyre maker said. The tyres were built with a belt wider than that the design calls for, Federal told NHTSA.

The tyre maker reported no instances of motor vehicle accidents, injuries or property damage related to the tyres in question.

Federal will replace the tyres free of charge. The company told NHTSA it would begin notifying tyre owners on or about July 15.
