Sumitomo Rubber on course for carbon neutrality, joins hydrogen association

Sumitomo Rubber Sumitomo Rubber Industries (SRI) has joined the Japan Hydrogen Association (JH2A), an open-participation organisation that aims to hasten the arrival of the Hydrogen Economy through various social implementation projects, with members representing a wide range of industries to provide a comprehensive overview of supply chains.

Sumitomo Rubber Industries is exploring the possibility of utilising hydrogen energy in its major tyre factories in Japan,  as it aims towards achieving  carbon neutrality  in its tyre manufacturing processes by 2050.

The Japanese tyre maker said that joining  JH2A will enable them to overcome the challenges involved in bringing about the Hydrogen Economy; and as a member, they can participate in exchanging useful information with other companies and organisations.

As of December 7, 2020, JH2A has 88 members, and among its board members are Iwatani Corporation, Eneos Corporation, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Kansai Electric Power, Kobe Steel, Toshiba, Toyota Motor Corporation, Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group, and Mitsui & Co.
