Saudi road mishaps mostly due to tyre blowouts, says study

flatACCORDING to recent studies, about 30% of road accidents in Saudi Arabia are caused by tyre failure. Tyres are accountable for 35% of vehicle safety; bad tyres are said to be the main cause of most overturning accidents.

A tyre expert says that high temperatures (such as during summmer, when temperature of road asphalt can go up to 70°C) put added stress on tyres; and while the tyre may not show any outward defect, the internal layers could have been damaged and this can lead to a major tyre burst in hot temperatures on the road.

Moreover, tyres should be purchased only from authorised dealers; used or expired tyres are also plenty in the market and motorists should be cautioned not to buy them.
