Pyrolyx completes deal in tyre recycling sector

Pyrolyx

Pyrolyx AG, based in Munich, has completed a deal to acquire Germany-based competitor Carbon-Clean Tech Stegelitz GmbH (CCT Stegelitz). CCT Stegelitz will be fully integrated into Pyrolyx AG, which says it will continue to invest in CCT’s production site in Stegelitz, Germany.

CCT is a manufacturer that specializes in recovering carbon black from used rubber products, such as tyres, by means of a patented process. The company’s plant has been in operation since 2012.

Pyrolyx, which has developed a process to convert scrap tyres into carbon black, says the acquisition was financed by a combination of convertible bonds and cash.

Along with the acquisition, Pyrolyx AG says it plans to build Pyrolyx production facilities in Stegelitz, Germany, near CCT’s existing facility. Over the next three years, Pyrolyx AG says it plans to invest 30 million euro (US$33.3 million) to increase capacity at CCT’s facility. Pyrolyx says the investment is intended to establish what it calls “the world’s largest environmentally sustainable producer of recovered carbon black from end-of-life tyres at CCT’s facility in Stegelitz,” which is able to handle 4,500 tons per year of recycled carbon black.

Pyrolyx says it has developed a process that enables raw materials, such as carbon black, to be made from commercial rubber granules produced from end-of-life tyres. – Recyclingtoday.com
