Pirelli comes out tops

Pirelli

Pirelli Tyre S.p.A. continued its drive into the premium OE sector last year, gaining 213 homologations in the premium and prestige sectors, a 6-% gain over 2013, the tire maker said on the eve the 2015 Geneva International Motor Show.

Of these 213, Pirelli said 118 — or 55 % — were “marked” tires, or those with special sidewwall markings to indicate they are tailor-made for a specific vehicle manufacturer.

Overall, Pirelli said it achieved 266 new homologations last year, boosting its total to 1,846 with vehicle makers worldwide.

Included in the new homologations are several for the tire maker’s products with “Seal Inside” puncture-sealing technology. Among the OE fitments using Seal Inside are Volkswagen A.G.’s Touran compact mini-van and Passat mid-size sedan, Pirelli said.

Pirelli also has chosen to incorporate it into the Cinturato All Season it launched recently for the European market.

Seal Inside seals punctures up to 4mm in diameter, Pirelli said.

Among OE fitments on display at the Geneva Motor show are:

  • Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce;
  • Audi Q7 and Q3;
  • Volvo XC90; and
  • BMW X5M and X6M — all using either the Scorpion Verde or Scorpion All Season or P Zero variants.
