Orion commissions new air emissions controls in US

Orion Engineered Carbons S.A, a worldwide supplier of speciality carbon black, says that it has successfully completed a significant upgrade of its emissions controls at its plant in Orange, Texas. As a result of these actions, the site complies with strengthened environmental standards which reduce the site’s emission permits for NOx and SO2 by 2,300 tonnes/year of air pollutant emissions.

“I congratulate our project and plant teams and our contractors for completing this project on time despite the pandemic. Their dedication, this investment, and other proactive measures taken at our Orange facility demonstrate our commitment to sustainability and to be a good community citizen. It falls squarely within our broader corporate sustainability initiatives that are built around four themes; sustainable growth, being compliant in our day to day operations, living our values and driving sustainability along our value chain,” said Corning Painter, CEO of Orion Engineered Carbons.

Technology installed at the facility includes a thermal oxidizer that is more effective than the incinerator, which was previously used to reduce the pollutants. In addition, the company installed a Selective Catalytic Reduction reactor to reduce the emission of NOx. The project spanned from the middle of 2019 and is now fully operational.
