Rubber exports from North Sumatra, Indonesia this year up until August 2016 went down 20.84% as compared to the same period in 2015.
According to Bismark SP Sitinjak, chief of the production statistic section at the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) office in North Sumatra, North Sumatra’s rubber and rubber product exports fell to US$633.996 million by August 2016 from US$800.864 million in the same period last year.
The lingering global crisis has resulted in the shortfall in foreign exchange earnings which also led to decreased demand for the rubber commodity in the global market, the chief said.
With the declining demand, the Indonesian province’s rubber exports are expected to drop throughout the year as compared to the previous year.
