Nokian heavy tyres introduces two new sizes

Nokian-Hakkapeliitta-Truck-D

Nokian Tyres developed and manufactured the world´s first winter tyre in 1934. This year will mark the 80th anniversary of the “Kelirengas”. The “Kelirengas” was intended for trucks, and it was designed to bring grip and reliable steering to the snowy and narrow roads.

The inventor of the world’s first winter tyre continues its work today as a winter safety pioneer. Nokian Heavy Tyres is introducing two new sizes of the Nokian Hakkapeliitta Truck D truck and bus tyre that is designed for winter conditions. This addition means that the Nokian Hakkapeliitta Truck D winter traction tyre is now available in the most common sizes. In addition to the existing size of 315/80R22.5, the sizes 295/80R22.5 and 315/70R22.5 will be available in the end of the summer of 2014.

Due to its exceptional, Hakkapeliitta grip, the Nokian Hakkapeliitta Truck D is a reliable performer on the rough Northern roads. The product is especially intended for demanding use on main roads. In addition to the M+S label, the tyre also bears the alpine symbol indicating official winter tyre approval.

– Our patented twin-block pattern ensures optimal grip and precise driving response even under extreme conditions. The effective support of the tread blocks allows for deep sipes, providing the best possible grip without compromising the driving stability highly valued by drivers. The deep 3D siping of the Nokian Hakkapeliitta Truck D allows it to maintain its grip as the tyre wears down, says Teppo Siltanen, Product Manager for Truck Tyres at Nokian Heavy Tyres.

The dense lateral siping improves traction and braking grip. The sipe activators on the tread boost the operation of the sipes and guarantee driving safety, even under rapidly changing weather conditions. The traction booster zigzag-pattern on the tyre surface also improves longitudinal grip.

The excellent winter grip and stable handling are complemented by the tread compound that is designed for the challenging Northern conditions. It provides good wear resistance and can operate across a wide temperature range.

The excellent wear resistance of the Nokian Hakkapeliitta Truck D is based on a tailored rubber compound and the specific block distribution of the strong pattern: the step of the tread has been adjusted to match the uneven road surfaces. The optimised block distribution and regular surface pressure also ensure that the wear pattern is regular.

The Nokian Hakkapeliitta Truck D also saves fuel. It creates savings due to its low rolling resistance, which in turn reduces fuel consumption and exhaust gas emissions. Due to the modern tread pattern design and optimised block distribution, the driving noise is pleasantly quiet; up to 3 dB lower than in its predecessor.

Wear indicators provide added safety

Wear indicators provide safety and make it easy to follow the wear of the tyre. The Driving Safety Indicator (DSI) developed and patented by Nokian Tyres indicates in numbers how many millimetres of tread there is left on the main grooves of the tyre.

The Winter Safety Indicator (WSI) shows when the tyre’s winter grip properties are strongest. The WSI-indicator reaches around half of the pattern depth.

The Nokian Hakkapeliitta Truck D tread pattern is also available as the Nokian Noktop Hakkapeliitta D retread, developed and tested for demanding conditions.

The Nokian Hakkapeliitta Truck D is especially intended for the Nordic countries and the other Nokian Tyres markets that require truck and coach tyres for demanding winter use.
