Momentive starts manufacturing of biobased silane in Chennai

Silane manufacturer Momentive has started producing NXT P97 silane at its Chennai facility in India to strengthen supply reliability and expand access to advanced tyre technology for India and markets across IMEA and Asia?Pacific.

NXT P97 silane is formulated for silica?reinforced tread compounds and is bio?based, containing 79% renewable carbon. The product is said to optimise rolling resistance and wear performance and to improve mercaptosilane processing through enhanced filler dispersion and improved polymer–filler interaction. By enabling longer?lasting tires and better fuel efficiency, Momentive states the silane may contribute to lower CO2 and particulate emissions during the tire use phase.

The Chennai manufacturing site is complemented by Momentive’s Corporate R&D centre in Bangalore, which provides expertise in silane chemistry, formulation development, product optimization, regulatory compliance and application support.

Together, the manufacturing and R&D capabilities are intended to combine technical collaboration and innovation resources to help customers accelerate development and commercialisation of next?generation tyre solutions, it adds.
