Michigan state police in Walker, Grand Rapids and Kentwood are investigating the increasing theft of car parts, including tyres in the area, noting too of the rise in trade of these stolen parts.
To fight this, legislation passed last week in the State House would ban cashpayments for used tyres and would also tighten record-keeping. According to the proponents, doing away with cash payments will discourage thieves from trying to make easy cash.
The bill also requires all check or money order payments to be mailed.
