Michelin UK launched women recruitment drive

Michelin is hoping to drive more women into a career in logistics this month, as it announces more than 20 jobs will be created at its Stoke-on-Trent warehouse and distribution facility over the next nine months.

The new roles come on the back of the manufacturer’s recently-announced £12million investment in its Campbell Road logistics and production site.

The recruitment push – for a number of roles, including shift work and manual handling – kicked off with an ‘open door’ event for women, on Monday, January 18 at the Michelin Training Centre in Trent Vale. The new positions will increase the number of Michelin logistics employees in the area to about 100.

Speaking ahead of the event, tyre warehouse operations manager, Wendy Eardley, said: “Females are significantly under-represented in manufacturing and logistics, and there is no reason why that should be the case.

“Over the years, Michelin has made a lot of ergonomic changes to its production processes to encourage female recruits. Now we want to encourage female applicants for these logistics positions and the open door event is part of that.”
