MICHELIN has unveiled its new winter tyre for the recently held Rally Sweden, the only pure snow and ice round of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC).
The X-Ice North 2 tyre features 384 metal spikes, each 20mm long, inserted into the tread block on each tyre. The stud protrudes from the rubber to a maximum of 7mm, providing astonishing grip into snow and ice, and the casing has been reinforced to increase its resistance to puncture.
Michelin will provide an evolution of the X-Ice North tyre used in 2011 and 2012 WRCs, with improvements made such as a revised tread pattern and the amount that the studs protrude from the rubber blocks.
The X-Ice North 2 WRC was signed off after test sessions in Sweden with Michelin’s partners in December and January. (RJA)
