Michelin continues support to Yellowstone

michelin-yellowstoneMICHELIN North America Inc has renewed its five-year-old agreement with Yellowstone Park Foundation — the official fund-raising partner of Yellowstone National Park — covering tyres and vehicle maintenance advice for the park’s fleet of 800-plus vehicles.

Since 2008, Michelin has donated more than 1,400 tyres for Yellowstone’s fleets, which collectively travel 3.75 million miles per year on the park’s 420-plus miles of roadways, Michelin said.

Through the partnership Michelin is helping Yellowstone National Park reduce its operating expenses and lower the park’s consumption of raw materials. The company is also helping the park lower its overall fuel consumption with the use of Michelin’s industry leading green tyre technology that it has been developing and refining since 1992. This focus on efficient ture performance, as it relates to improving the park’s sustainability, is significant given that, on average, Yellowstone vehicles collectively travel 3.75 million miles per year on the park’s more than 420 miles of roadways.

The partnership has helped Yellowstone save approximately US$275,000 to US$300,000 annually, Michelin said, which this year represents about a 12% reduction in the park’s fleet and road maintenance budget. The partnership also aims to help the park reach its goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 30 percent by 2016, it added.

Michelin has provided a host of benefits to the park, including the development of a new tread design that allowed the park year-round usage of just one tyre for snow, ice, mud and bare pavements at its vicinity.
