MALAYSIAN-based company Felda Global Ventures (FGV) Holdings will be looking into the possibility of having rubber plantations here in Davao City instead of oil palm, an investment official said.

Davao City Investment Promotions Center (DCIPC) officer-in-charge Ivan C. Cortez, in an interview with Sun.Star Davao, said based on the FGV’s site visits in Marilog and Paquibato, although the soil quality is good, these areas will not be ideal for oil palm due to steep slopes.

“[But] It is highly recommended for rubber… They have informed their rubber department to come over the next three weeks,” he said.

Cortez said the slopes of the initial sites were too steep for oil palm plantations since it will be difficult to transport harvested fruits, wherein a batch of it would weigh around 45 kilograms (kg) to 60 kg.

Earlier, FGV visited Davao City and met with the local investment promotions officers coming from the Davao City, Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (Armm), Davao Del Sur, Davao Oriental, and Caraga Region.

The Malaysian company was hosted by DCIPC and the Mindanao Development Authority (Minda).
