Malaysian glove manufacturer Kossan Rubber Industries Bhd is in the midst of securing Halal certification for a second plant in Klang, expected to be finalised by year-end. The second plant is expected to produce 1.2 billion pieces of Halal-compliant gloves each year.
The group obtained Halal certification for the WSM plant in Klang last year-end, which has a production volume of 2.4 billion pieces of gloves per year.
According to Kossan group managing director and CEO Tan Sri Lim Kuang Sia, the group is the first glove maker to be granted with the Halal certification by the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim).
“Like HACCP certification, the Halal certification is another system of quality assurance.
“Users will have better confidence in the hygiene and safety assurance provided by the Halal certification.
“As gloves are widely used in the food industry, being the first point of contact in food preparation, we believe there is much growth potential and opportunity for Halal-compliant gloves going forward,” he said, after the group’s annual general meeting.
