JAPAN is planning to import raw rubber from Myanmar to fill in the approximately 700,000 to 800,000 tonnes rubber/year requirement of tyre companies in the country.
To raise Myanmar’s technical standards with the raw rubber and be at par with Japan’s, the latter will be sending its technicians to provide technical aid.
It hopes that Myanmar’s rubber product standards will eventually fit into the Japanese standards when it enters its market.
In early November, representatives from the Myanmar Rubber Planters and Producers Association signed an MoU with the Japan Rubber Manufactures Association and the Rubber Trade Association from Japan that enables them to produce for and export rubber to Japan. Myanmar has been exporting raw rubber products to Malaysia, Vietnam, South Korea, China, Singapore, India, Pakistan, United Arab Emirates and Thailand.
