Today, the trial in which the Iranian company SandbadTir INTL Transport Co. Ltd. is demanding that Nairit Plant CJSC be declared bankrupt continued in Yerevan’s Shengavit Court of First Instance.

Vrezh Khachikyan, who represents the Iranian company, told this reporter that Nairit owes it US$27,000.

The attorney said that the issue goes back seven or eight years and revolves around Nairit supplies of caustic soda to SanbadTir.

Khachikyan added that the figure is the principal amount of the liability to which interest and penalties still need to be added. These are still being calculated, he said.

As to why the Iranian company hasn’t sued Nairit in civil court to demand payment of the debt, Khachikyan said that this issue is also being discussed.

“Nairit is claiming that there is no need for the bankruptcy demand and that it has sufficient reserve funds. They have suggested that we file a asset seizure claim rather than a bankruptcy demand,” Khachikyan told Hetq.

At today’s court session Khachikyan presented documents supplied by the Iranian Producers and Manufacturers Organization, and verified by the Iranian Embassy in Armenia, that SanbadTir is a currently operating company.

At a previous court session, Nairit Plant’s representative Nelli Tovmasyan, claimed that the Iranian company doesn’t even exist.

Today, Tovmasyan requested more time to familiarize herself with the new documentation. Th court sustained her motion and scheduled the next session for April 11.
