French tyre maker petitions NHTSA on replacement motorcycle tyres

Michelin

Michelin North America Inc. has petitioned the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for a finding of inconsequential noncompliance regarding 889 Michelin Pilot Street Radial replacement motorcycle tyres. The tyres — sizes 110/70 R17 54H, 130/70 R17 62H and 140/70 R17 66H — were manufactured at the Michelin plant in Phrapradaeng, Thailand, between Aug. 12, 2012, and Dec. 21, 2013, Michelin said.

The tyres are marked as having polyamide tread and sidewall plies instead of polyester, Michelin told NHTSA. But they contain the correct number of reinforcing plies, the tyre maker said. Michelin also noted that the agency previously granted petitions of inconsequential noncompliance for similar errors by other tyre makers.
