Fire damages 17000 rubber trees

Fire damaged around 17000 rubber trees on 40 acres of a rubber garden in Agatila area under Rajnagor upazila of Moulvibazar district early yesterday.

Manager Md Aminul Islam of the garden said trees worth around Tk 5 core were gutted in the fire, reports our correspondent.

Locals said they saw the flames at the garden at around 3:00am and informed the police. They had tried in vain to put out the blaze.

The cause of the fire could not be ascertained as of filing of this report at 5:00pm yesterday. Manager Aminul Islam of the garden filed a general diary (GD) with Rajnagar Police Station at noon.

Contacted, Officer-in-Charge Md Kamrul Hasan of the police station said they are investigating the incident.

Meanwhile, At least 14 shops were gutted in fire incidents in Bhola, Bogra and on the campus of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) in Mymensingh on Monday night and yesterday, report our correspondents.

Of the shops, three were destroyed on the BAU campus on Monday night, six at Janata Road Bazar in Charfasssion upazila of Bhola and the rest five at Puran Bazar in Dupchanchia municipality area under Bogra district early yesterday.

In Bhola, the fire originated from an electric short circuit at a jewellery shop around 9:30am and soon engulfed the adjoining five shops. Fire fighter extinguished the blaze at 10:00am.

In Bogra, Fire shops were gutted in a fire at Puran bazaar area in Dupchanchia municipality area at around 1:00am yesterday.

Locals said the fire originated from Abdus Samad’s shop at the bazaar and soon spread to the adjacent four shops.

Three shops were destroyed by a fire on the campus of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) on Monday night. The fire originated from a cycle garage at around 8:30pm and and spread to two adjoining shops.
