Evonik is launching a global initiative to enhance its technology platform for specialty silicones. With this action, the company will invest a triple-digit-million-euro amount and gradually increase the production volume of its specialty silicones. The plans include expansions in both Germany and China.
Currently on stream in Essen, Germany is a newly expanded specialty silicones plant into which the company has invested funds in the double-digit-millions of euros. Future expansions are also planned for the facility to keep up with a growing customer base for these products in the European market. Demand for specialty silicones has also grown substantially in Asia, and Evonik has responded by expanding its site in Shanghai, China with a new production complex.
According to the company, the increased demand for such products is mainly driven by the construction, textile, coating, furniture, and appliance industries. – American Coatings Association
