Dunlop provides new medium tyre compound

Dunlop has announced it is to introduce a new specification of medium tyre at the fourth round of the British Touring Car Championship at Oulton Park this weekend.

The ‘Dunlop Sport Maxx BTCC Medium’ is set to fill the gap of the previous medium tyre and is expected to bring improved stability under braking and greater consistency over a race. The soft option Dunlop tyre will remain unaltered.

“Even though we are the sole supplier, we are always looking to introduce new developments that can benefit the teams and the racing,” Michael Butler, Dunlop’s BTCC manager, said. “The new tyre uses new materials that have been proven in our successful GT Endurance racing programmes and we decided that applying these new technologies would benefit the BTCC tyre.”

The upgraded compound has been tested on a range of cars at Snetterton, Brands Hatch and Donington Park during pre-season test days and Dunlop has given the green light for it to be used in race conditions for the first time.

“We will consider applying the same material changes to the 2016 Soft tyre if we find it is necessary after analysing the results from this season,” Butler added. – crash.net
