DECLINING demand is seen as the key reason why US-headquartered Dow Chemical has intended to close down its Grangemouth methyl methacrylate butadiene styrene (MBS) plant in the UK.
According to Dow, it has already informed the site’s more than 60 employees of the plan.
A spokesperson from Dow was quoted saying that significant drop in demand for the site’s products, amidst an ongoing economic uncertainty, as well as rising manufacturing, raw materials and energy costs prompt the company to decide to halt the site’s operations.
As reported, Dow is scheduled to start a more detailed discussion with staff at the MBS plant on the closure.
