A volunteer army of Cooper Tire employees in Tupelo collected nearly 2,000 tires for recycling during the manufacturing plant’s fifth annual community-wide Tire Recycling Day, held November 14 at the Cooper Tupelo plant.
By collecting unwanted scrap tires through events such as Tire Recycling Day, Cooper is ensuring proper disposal of tires in an environmentally friendly manner, preventing the development of scrap tire piles, while also helping control the mosquito population and the resulting spread of mosquito-borne illness. Tires collected during the Cooper Tupelo Tire Recycling Day were sent to a facility for shredding and use in various other ways including as a fuel and energy source.
“Our annual Tire Recycling Day is one of the best examples of Cooper’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and protecting the environment,” said John Swartzendruber, Senior Environmental Coordinator for the Cooper Tupelo facility. “We are committed to the sustainability of our community by holding events such as this to reduce the environmental impact of unwanted tires, helping area residents dispose of them responsibly.”
