China’s Doublestar to produce tyres in Algeria with new factory

Chinese tyre maker Qingdao Doublestar is to start up a car/truck tyre plant in Algeria, in a joint venture project with local investors El Hadj Larbi Pneumatiques. The Doublestar Group will invest about US$5 million into the project, while the remaining US$250 million will come from the joint venture partners. According to Doublestar, the new plant should produce up to 5 million passenger and 2 million truck/bus tyres annually.

The joint venture project represents the second tyre factory to be built in Algeria after one under Algerian Saterex-Iris, which began passenger tyre production in Setif in early 2019.

Set up by Hong Kong Doublestar International, Doublestar’s subsidiary, and El Hadj Larbi Pneumatiques, the two parties will also jointly establish a trading company in Dubai to sell tyres made at the Algerian plant.
