Tyre manufacturer Balkrishna Industries Ltd. (BKT) is planning to develop special tyres for the earthmoving and heavy machinery used in agricultural sectors. BKT will construct high-performance tyres which have high-strength bead and carcass to withstand the stress and extreme conditions of these vehicles, similar to tyres onelectric vehicles (EVs).
At present, BKT is focusing on sensor technology to provide operators with data regarding the condition of tyres, including various pressure and wear levels. BKT’s “SPOTECH system” provides real-time data and GPS positional information to the driver of machinery using tyres manufactured by the company, in addition to three-axis g-forces and duty cycle.
BKT is investigating the use of nanomaterials and graphene to increase wear and puncture resistance; it is also working on new compounds to facilitate greater load-carrying capabilities and improved operation even at low temperatures.
