Bacup tyre firm rises from the ashes

A long-standing Bacup business which was destroyed by fire has re-opened at a new site.

The inferno at PC Tyres and Exhaust ripped through industrial units on Rockcliffe Road last November, leaving workers jobless.

Owner Peter Salt was forced to close the 19-year-old business after the unit was demolished following the late-night incident.

But Peter, 49, said he has been overwhelmed by support following the blaze and has managed to start again at a larger unit on the other side of the Beech Industrial Estate.

Initially, the father-of-two was worried he might have to close the business permanently as he was not insured against fire damage.

He said: “We’re going back into business. After the fire in November we’ve just started again at a new unit.

“I couldn’t even begin to think how much the fire cost me, but it must be in the region of £50,000.

“We never did find out the cause. But it’s good to get back to work and get going and I’ve got loyal customers.

“The new place is twice the size of the last unit.

“I want to thank everyone for the continued support we have had off them hoping we get back on my feet. It has been quite humbling.”

Thirty firefighters from Rossendale and Hyndburn worked through the night to get the fire, which hit the firm, on Monday, November 4, under control.

PC Tyres and Exhaust, which offers tyre, suspension, exhaust, and brake fittings, has now opened its doors for business at Unit E and F, Beech Industrial Estate, Vale Street, Bacup.
