Earlier this year, Apollo Tyres Ltd. announced it was going to build a greenfield plant in Eastern Europe. At the global launch of two Vredestein tires in Edinburgh, Scotland, on June 23, company executives shared more details with the media in attendance.
The location of the $500 million plant has been narrowed down to two countries: Hungary and Slovakia.
It was already known that the plant, originally a $200 million consumer tire-only facility, will produce TBR (truck and bus radial) tires as well. However, only Apollo brand truck tires will be manufactured at the plant; there are no plans to produce Vredestein truck tires.
It is not yet known whether or not both Apollo and Vredestein passenger and light truck tires will come out of the plant. All Vredestein-brand tires are produced in a plant in The Netherlands.
