Apollo Tyres proposes to expand the manufacturing capacity for off-highway tyres by investing about Rs.400 crore in its Kerala plant, said its President-APMENA (Asia Pacific-Middle East and North Africa), Satish Sharma, on Saturday. Talking to reporters, he said at present the Kalamassery unit manufactured 30 tonnes of various types of tyres per day and it would be increased to 110 tonnes over the next 18 months.

The off-highway tyres were used in specialised vehicles such as loaders, golf vehicles, agriculture equipment, mining and others and most of them were exported to European markets.

Regarding the Chennai plant, he said “It was a one shot big investment. But we achieved break-even in three years.”
