US state to bid for scrap tyre recycling fund hike

mulchNebraska’s Department of Environmental Quality Scrap Tire Management Programme is anticipating to increase its funding for recycling of scrap tyres.

Nebraska state senator Ken Schilz, the proponent of the bill that seeks to increase the funding for the said programme, is looking into doubling the fee obtained from selling tyres in the state.

Currently, US$1 from every tyre sold in the state is put into the programme, and is used to make rubber bi-products, such as rubber mulch for playgrounds.

Schilz wants this fee to double because of an increase in grant applications to fund these projects.
