CONTINENTAL Tire the Americas L.L.C. is launching ContiPressureCheck system, a tyre pressure-monitoring system (TPMS) for commercial trucks, in North America following a year of real-world testing with commercial truck fleets across the US.
The TPMS is jointly developed by the Commercial Vehicle Tire, Body and Security and Commercial Vehicles & Aftermarket business units. It utilises sensors mounted inside the tyres to provide accurate temperature and pressure readings. Alerts and warnings are displayed inside the cab, and the system can be used for tractors, trailers or in combination.
According to Continental, the ContiPressureCheck system saves drivers and fleets both time and money, by alerting the driver of sudden inflation deviations, as well as slow air losses to the tyre. By correcting these issues prior to tyre replacement, fleets and drivers can prevent vehicle downtime, extend the tread life of their tyres and protect their valuable casing investment. Furthermore, proper tyre inflation also reduces rolling resistance of the tyre and fuel consumption.
Citing the company’s research, optimal tyre inflation increases stopping distance and optimises vehicle control.
The TPMS has been featured in the recent 2013 Mid-America Trucking Show held 21-23 March in Louisville, US.
