Chinese carbon black maker Longxing Technology Group says it has commenced deliveries of nearly 10.000 tonnes of sustainable carbon black to a prominent European tyre manufacturer after successfully obtaining customer approval for its product.
The Hebei-based company stated that this initial supply agreement marks an important step in expanding its presence within Europe’s sustainable tire supply chain. While the company did not disclose the identity of its European customer, it confirmed that it is simultaneously collaborating with several other major European tire manufacturers on the development of green carbon black products. These partnerships currently involve product development, sample testing, validation, and certification activities aimed at meeting strict performance and sustainability requirements.
Carbon black is one of the most important reinforcing materials used in tyre production. It significantly improves tire durability by enhancing tear resistance, abrasion resistance, fatigue strength, and overall performance while also contributing to longer driving ranges and improved safety. Conventionally, carbon black is produced through synthetic processes using coal tar and other fossil-based feedstocks, providing high reinforcement properties that have made it the preferred material for tire manufacturers worldwide.
For its latest sustainable offering, Longxing Tech uses cracking oil derived from waste tires as the primary feedstock. Through advanced processing technology, the company produces sustainable carbon black with performance characteristics comparable to conventional virgin carbon black. This approach differs from traditional recycled carbon black, which is recovered directly from waste tyres and often suffers from lower purity and reduced reinforcing performance.
The company further noted that leading global tyre manufacturers have accelerated renewable and sustainable material substitution programs over recent years. These initiatives are creating significant commercial opportunities for suppliers capable of delivering high-performance sustainable materials. In response to this growing market demand, Longxing Tech plans to gradually expand its annual production capacity for sustainable carbon black based on customer requirements.
Longxing Tech produced approximately 668,700 tonnes of carbon black last year.
