Dynasol invests EUR72 mn in new SSBR production line in Spain

Dynasol Group’s plant in Gajano (Cantabria), Spain, has launched a new styrene-butadiene rubber (SSBR) production line following an investment of EUR72 million, which will increase the factory’s production by 20,000 tonnes of rubber.

The company’s Cantabria plant currently exports 90% of its production to 70 countries around the world, the firm adds.

A spokesperson also said this new line of business strengthens and supports the company’s competitiveness and future, generates quality employment with 20 new jobs, and meets rising demand in emerging segments such as electric vehicles and electronics.

The investment, as confirmed by the CEO of the Dynasol group, Felipe Varela, will soon be accompanied by another EUR24 million investment.

He added that the EUR72 million the group has invested in this new production line makes the Cantabrian plant the “best synthetic rubber production centre in Europe”.

The plant’s origins date back to 1966, the year in which production began at the former Calatrava factory. In 1999, following the merger between Spanish petchem firm Repsol and Mexican group Gira, the plant was renamed Dynasol, and finally, in 2015, the Dynasol Group was born, thanks to the new alliance between Repsol and the Kuo Group.

The Gajano industrial complex, which employs more than 230 people, covers an area of more than 760,000 sq m.

Owned by Repsol and the Kuo Group, Dynasol is dedicated to the manufacture and marketing of synthetic rubber and rubber chemicals, with an annual production capacity of 500,000 tonnes.

It has production centres in Spain (Gajano and Álava) and Mexico, as well as two business partnerships in China, and is present in countries around the world.
