UK-based motor tyres firm Nova Motorsport says it is in the final stages of a EUR20 million expansion project at its recently acquired Camac tyre factory in Palmeira, Portugal.
The facility will enable Nova Motorsport to resume production of Avon Motorsport tyre products, enhance the quality and capability of the existing Camac tyre range and develop new motorsport, specialist and bespoke tyres for the future.
Following the acquisition of Camac in May, Nova Motorsport immediately broke ground on a significant extension to the factory footprint to facilitate the incoming Avon Motorsport assets and equipment from the UK. This first phase is already near completion, along with additional enhancements, including significant improvements to services and site infrastructure, refurbishment of existing equipment, and a complete overhaul of office spaces to ensure full integration of the Camac and Nova Motorsport teams.
In an extensive and complex logistical operation, over 200 lorries have been mobilised to transfer the entirety of the Melksham, UK, facility to Palmeira in Portugal. The scale of the investment and extent of the refurbishment is set to significantly enhance the quality and capability of the existing Camac facility.
The operation underscores Nova Motorsport’s strategic commitment to revolutionising the world of premium competition and specialist tyres – paving the way for the production of cutting-edge Avon Motorsport tyre products, and an era of unmatched excellence and innovation in tyre manufacturing, it adds.
Nova Motorsport was founded earlier this year with the aim of becoming a leading supplier of specialist tyres for low-volume automotive manufacturers, specialists and private collectors.
The company acquired assets from Goodyear in February, including brand licenses to manufacture and sell racing tyres under the brands Avon Motorsport and Avon Racing.
In April, it acquired the Camac factory, which has the capacity to produce more than 500,000 tyres/year.
James Weekley, Nova Motorsport Commercial Director, said: “The hard work and rapid advancements made by the Nova Motorsport and Camac teams bear testament to our determination to establish a world-leading centre of tyre manufacturing excellence in Europe, supported by our Global Technical Centre and HQ in Holt, England. However, this is only the beginning of the Nova Motorsport journey. Our next goal is to produce the first Avon Motorsport products in Portugal, marking a new chapter in our commitment to delivering high-performance tyres for the motorsport industry, and we remain firmly on track to achieve that.”
