As the World Health Organization has asked glove manufacturers to produce more medical gloves in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Malaysian Rubber Glove Manufacturers Association (MARGMA) is urging the government to allow their factories to continue production at full capacity in this trying time. MARGMA President Denis Low said it is also vital that supporting industries operate as well, due to urgent global need for these gloves.
Low claims many European countries are“very worried” as their stocks of medical gloves are used up fast; he added that MARGMA members had received requests from at least 190 countries and also their governments for more gloves. As of March 29, 2020, there are more than 600,000 reported cases of COVID-19 globally.
“MARGMA is able to ramp up more production provided the government gives us the green light. We have to supply 220 billion pieces of this protective medical device to 190 countries and we cannot stop; the virus is spreading rapidly,” he said.
